As I build my sculptures, I continually smooth the surface and refine the contours of the form. I am forever seeking the perfect fluid line that weaves seamlessly through space. I’m attracted to the seductive malleability and elasticity of clay, traits that allows me to stretch and shape forms to mimic voluptuous flesh. In my current body of work, I juxtapose the smooth contours with meticulous textural elements to create contrast and visual tension. After bisque firing to cone 04, 1945 degrees F, I apply multiple layers of glaze to achieve my desired blend of feminine, bodily color and fire again to cone 05, 1888 degrees F. I hope the resulting dynamic evokes a sensory awareness that simultaneously seduces and repels.
